BACKGROUND
Trainer and coach, safety culture consultant, university lecturer

We are for real
For me, an important value is 'walk the way you talk'. As nice as this sounds, I do not always manage to put it into practice. The great thing about my job is that every training is also an opportunity for me to examine my own behaviour. I therefore like to use my own challenges and failures to convey to participants that nobody is perfect and learning and personal leadership is a lifelong process. And, of course, it brings the necessary light-heartedness.
We are of the wall
I am honest and direct, which people sometimes find peculiar or uncomfortable. On the other hand, other people actually find this a fine quality and they perceive me as safe because I don't have a double agenda. The answer lies in 'the eye of the beholder'.
We innovate for tomorrow
In my work, I do a lot of custom-made work; I like to consider complex problems and see what is needed in a specific situation. Every challenge contributes to my development and I do not shy away from experimenting with different working methods and insights gained from books and training courses, for example.
We float like a butterfly and sting like a bee
My style is light and enthusiastic; I find it important to create a warm and light-hearted atmosphere where participants feel comfortable and where there is room for fun. People learn more when they have fun. This does not mean that there is no sharp edge; looking for that uncomfortable edge, making a sharp observation, sharing honest feedback or having a lively conversation with the client about what is really needed in an organisation and why approach X will not work, is also part of the job.
We score without compromises
When I enter into a relationship with a client, I do so with radical transparency; if I don't believe in something, think an approach isn't working or think I'm not the right person for the job, I engage with the client to explore what's going on and how we can come up with an approach that is truly effective. This can be quite a difficult process at times, because we all want to get it right, including me. But these kinds of conversations are often the ones that yield the most and the reason why I do what I do; namely, having the real conversation in organisations.
